In a village in Western Uttar Pradesh state of India, a woman who belongs to a lower caste used to be the midwife of the village. When her younger sister in law gives birth to a son, the wish to have her own child becomes stronger in her. In this period, living in a family where she is seen as a curse, faces more and more discrimination for not being a mother. All this while, the darker forces inside her come to life and she plans to do a ritual which involves taking bath by sitting on the baby to attain motherhood. She abducts the baby but could not perform the ritual as while holding the baby in her arms true motherhood evokes within her and she fights the darkness within her. She returns with the baby while nobody now believes her. The family disintegrates and the baby is separated from her as she sings a lullaby for him from far away.

Ashish began his quest to find unheard marginal voices with his first short ‘The Cabin man’ (2007) which dealt with the loneliness of a cabin man guarding an abandoned railway cabin. In ‘Open Doors’ (2010) he reflected upon the apathy of a son towards her fragile mother; who hopes to return home, till her last breath. ‘Nooreh’ (2018) portrays an innocent belief of a young Kashmiri girl, growing up in a conflict ridden village on the India-Pakistan border. The years in between are devoted to earn money to fund the next truth seeking venture; Truth which is not definite. He is a graduate from Satyajit Ray film & television institute, Kolkata with specialization in Sound.

Kumudini, an 88 year-old former civil servant, wanted to live her retirement life peacefully in Alapuzha until she noticed water pollution caused by a coir company started to affect the tranquil she cherished. She took the legal recourse and in the long battle that ensued brought out the relentless fighter in her. The painstakingly collected evidences spoke for her against the might of the company. Kumudini had the last laugh when the court upheld her rights. The verdict proved to be a landmark judgement in the legal history of India. The Directors of a company were punished for causing water pollution. Right to life is a fundamental right under Article 21 of the constitution of India. If anybody is obstructing the same, he shall be punished under law. Right to life also includes right to live in a clean and pollution free environment. Kumudini (meaning water lily in Malayalam) has set an example to the world that whoever is responsible for the obstruction of right to live can be punished. The lessons from Kumudini is applicable to all those who commits the crime of destroying the environment and thereby obstructing the right to live in this world. In this light can we hold some one accountable for the recent floods in Kerala? Eminent ecologist, prof. Madhav Gadgil said that it was partly a man-made disaster. Whoever is responsible for this is liable to be punished under law.

TALASARI is a village just 63 miles from Mumbai seeped in troubles like lack of medical facilities, illiteracy, electricity theft, religious conversion and blind faith. In the summer of 2012, Dr Jatin Nandlal Walia took it on himself to rehabilitate the village and thus began a process of reformation. From free medical care to education to an earn-and- learn programme, the village took gradual strides to become self-sufficient. This film tells the 6 year journey of Talasari through the efforts of one man whose aim is to make Talasari the role model for all villages in India to adopt.
